Year 3 / 4 have finished learning about riddles.  Have a look at the riddles they created below. Can you work out what they are?

The Fast Swimmer

I can swim as fast as a car I'm as tall as a person I live in the cold, freezing Arctic and Antarctica I can swim in the wild ocean I come out to eat my delicious prey When I'm in dark waters, I'm camouflaged But the choppy waves reveal me I like flipping the floating ice My teeth chop like a knife When my friends are hunting, we spread in a long line                                                What am I?          (Thomas)

Following instructions

During the last two weeks, Year 3 / 4 have been studying the features of instructional texts.

After modelling how to make a jam sandwich, we improved our writing by giving more clear and precise instructions.

We had so much fun creating our own tasty sandwiches.

Ethical Fashion lesson

We discussed how fast fashion can be harmful to the environment and came up with ideas to help look after our clothes.  Here are some tips -
  • learn skills such as sewing & patching clothes (rework the fabric to create something new, such as a pillow case)
  • pay attention to care labels
  • return and recycle clothes
  • shop in charity shops
  • wash clothes less frequently to reduce water waste

Haikus

We started our first week back learning how to write haikus.  The children watched a short clip from Seven Worlds, One Planet to get some inspiration.

Here are some fantastic examples written from the leopard seal vs penguin scene.

Calling for mercy
Flying in the open sea
The ice flows like wind
(Ashley)

On a floating ice
Comes the evil leopard seal
Playing with penguin
(Jonathan)

Chasing the penguin
Comes the teasing leopard seal
Ready to attack
(Joanna)
