Hinduism Week

During Hinduism week, Years 3 and 4 took part in a lot of different activities learning about the religion of Hinduism, some of their beliefs and particularly how and why they celebrate the festival of Diwali.

They worked really hard to act out the story of Rama and Sita, before writing their own versions in role as one of the main characters.

In Maths they developed their understanding of symmetry by creating some Rangoli patterns that Hindus use to decorate their floors during Diwali. They then used coloured sand to decorate their patterns.

As well as Rangoli patterns, the children also used clay to create their own Diya lamps, painting these with bright colours to welcome Rama and Sita home from exile.

The girls also got to try on Mrs McCarthy’s sari to see what it was like to wear traditional Hindu clothes and the whole school learnt a lot about Diwali during an assembly led by Mrs Hairiya, Verdant's mum from F1. It was a really interesting week of activities overall and we had a lot of fun!
