Trip to Butser Ancient Farm

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a great day out at Butser Ancient Farm as part of their History learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Despite it being a bit cloudy and raining at times, they had a fantastic time taking part in lots of different activities throughout the day. They even got into the spirit of it by dressing up as Anglo-Saxons or Vikings for the day and all looked amazing!

 Using clay dug from the ground to make some thumb pots - the girls weren't too keen on the smell!

 We used authentic Anglo-Saxon tools to make patterns on our pots

Using flint tools to break up pieces of chalk into powder to make 'clunch'

 We then had to mix the chalk powder with soil, dead grass and some water to make the clunch mix

Then had to throw handfuls of the clunch at the walls!

We then used sheep's wool to do some spinning to make our own Anglo-Saxon friendship bracelets.

We had a brilliant day, and thank you to all of the parents for your support with organising Anglo-Saxon and Viking costumes for the trip, they really helped to get the children excited and involved with their learning, and we all had a LOT of fun!

Artful Flowers!

During their Science and Art work with Mrs Jacklin, Years 3 and 4 have been looking closely at flowers and their role in how plants grow. They then used watercolour paints and pencils to create their own flowers. We think the results are rather beautiful!
