Oakwood Climbing Centre

On the 1st March we went to Oakwood climbing centre.
Outside we saw some zip lines, but we did not go on them.
We were there to climb walls and we got really excited.
The walls were white, covered with colourful rocks on them.
Some of us were afraid of heights, so seeing the lofty walls was very scary for them at first.
The smell of the chalk dust was strong, floating in the cold air around us.
The climbing instructors gave us special climbing shoes that felt so tight, you could barely feel your feet,
but we got used to it after a few minutes. The floor inside was soft as pillows in the bouldering area.
We played some racing games to get our bodies warmed up before we started climbing with our harnesses.
While one person was climbing, the others were holding ropes attached to the person on the wall.
We had to hold them, but not to pull them up. They were heavy as rocks.

Our hands were sweating, our arms were tired, our legs were aching but we carried on.
Climbing the walls is challenging, but we all enjoyed it. Some of us reached the top and we felt victorious!
Others didn’t reach the top, but they still were happy because they tried their best and showed some success.

Prints

How did we make prints?

First we were looking for mountain animals’ footprints on the internet, for example golden eagle, mountain lion and yak.  We had to copy and paste the animal footprint picture onto a google document. It had to be 6x6 cms. Then we had to share it with Miss Owens. Miss Owens printed the pictures.
The next week we got a piece of foam and a picture of a mountain animal footprint and some tracing paper.
First we traced the picture onto the tracing paper with a blunt graphite pencil.
Then we put the tracing paper onto the foam and used our nails to rub it onto the foam.
Next we cut the foam carefully on the lines and stuck the pieces of foam onto the wood in the shape of the footprint.
The following week with some colourful paints we painted the footprints and printed them on a piece of paper.  We are going to use these for decorating the door for world book day.
Please come and see our classroom door on Thursday 7th March if you would like to see our prints.
